I also refuse to use an isp’s router for all the same reasons you mentioned. This was a really cool video learned a lot
Starlink internet is the way to go…
This is why I declined their combination GPON modem/router/wireless device. No problem.
@tomazzaman I didn't know anything about security. From your content, I realised that I am also need to check my router. So before keep hand things, would you suggest some learning site what is what and why is used. With the help of that, I can also dig something into router.
Grega in the house!
It will work you have to get the pppoe and vlan tag that is the ok way and not private. You can also take the sfp and flip the lock open plug the fiber in now its hot swappable. Then plug it into isp box get internet and when it connects unplug it while connected. and plug it into UDMpro WAN and you will have the ability to take the fiber from the street without the fiber jack. This also means they cant turn off your service.
Hacking ‘their’ equipment is illegal.
Legendary!
I did exactly the same before, but it didn’t speed up much. Now it would be nice if I can ditch the Huawei (extra power consumption) for my GPon module on software router/UDM if the pending upgrade is completed.

So you can't bring you own device? In australia we can always bring out own device so you don't have to use the rubbish the ISP gives you
Hi Tomaž, did you sell the Fritzbox 5491 or is it collecting dust because you have to give it back to your ISP once the contract is terminated? Did your every tried if your own SFP module works in the Fritzbox 5491? It's not supported by AVM, so of course I'm curious if it would work anyways.
In the USA, you can buy your own modem and call the ISP to provision it. The main benefit is... you don't have to pay a modem rental fee. And when you move... just tell them your new address and it will work. Assuming you moved within isp service area.
Fitzbox are the better ones her in Germany There are worse ones
Beautifully done, brilliant! Odlično, si izpeljal in predstavil 💯
I am just starting my journey into the 10Gbit networking scope and I wanted to know, will the routers you produce or plan to produce work globally. I live in Canada and like you I would like to use my own router not the Internet providers ones. I wish you the best of luck on this and please if you can answer I would love it.
Do you foresee issues running the business from Slovenia or do you plan on spending significant time in the US going forward? I’d expect that this requires at least a Slovenian subsidiary for day-to-day operations and could even lead to tax liabilities for the entire structure in Slovenia - were you able to rule this out?

How did you get a bank account without visiting the usa
God am I happy my cable company hates me for buying my own modem and using my own Wi-Fi 6 network. I wouldn’t bring a piece of Xfinity equipment Into my home willingly.
Ubiquiti actually makes a DOCSYS modem you can use
Companies that lock down hardware and software only encourage folks like you to learn way more about the systems than you would have if everything was in the open. When will they learn not to challenge the ingenuity of intrepid users? Once you place the information on the internet all of the dumb games the companies paid for goes up in smoke. Nicely executed work around!
Oh nice an "EU citizen" dutch sandwiching just for tax and privacy reasons to US. 🙄 Your whole plea of "why" is nothing short of flaws andd incorrect assumptions with sadly no thought for economy ethics and other consequences like IP, most probably and regretfully having turned a blind eye by your (local) lawyers who drool to work with an US investor?.... as if there are no EU incorporated successful startups. Having had a first look at the product from your videos, it is pretty niche in my experience, but anyway, best of luck.
This is as much as I can give at this time for the router and I believe in this project if I had more money I would have given it
Same here. Really easy to get rid of the isp provided equipment.. clear the DCHP lease and power it off. Then connect the new device. Easy
there is a way now.. u can program them.. Jake from LTT have made a video on it and talk a lot on it..
Brilliant!
Dont you need to live in the state
I am trying to build a 3u server rack with truenas. My goal is to have 10 bays but would like to run some VM as well. Do you recommend amd vs intel chip? And what motherboard would to recommend as well? Thanks
Up until May you could open UK company for £13 ( now £50). I takes up to 24h to receive all docs. I didn't need lawyars. Articles of assosiation in the UK is always ready made, for free. And the UK in not in the EU😅.
PSV
So, its not zhe router, its the gpon module?
When my cable company replaced our box with the new stuff, they stuck me with two separate units, the router, that takes in the coax signal, and splits it to Ethernet and a landline, and a separate Wireless router for wifi.. the wifi router didnt even come with a web interface.. And I couldn't even swap to my own wifi router because the cable company provided equipment was locked together..
No such problem from Starlink
Is this a joke?! I was expecting some $1 culmination for the company setup in USA. $7000 and three months is neither quick, not cheap. I guess it is easier when you are spending not your own money. In UK you can all the described to setup a limited company in less than a day for less than £100. All provided by easy to access government websites. And that everything, registration with company house, doing all the share holder and persons with significant control stuff, all the initial meeting minutes etc etc. all provided by simple templates free of charge by the companies house in UK. Then you register for VAT and get bank account, again with a few clicks. I think you went with a flow, because all the new business stuff is so all exciting all of a studden with all that investor money burning the pockets. Don't forget I vestors will want their money back with significant return at the end of a day...
Top Global Jurisdictions: 1. Ireland 2. Cyprus 3. Singapore 4. Dubai 5. Delaware
Good. Use tax havens. Taxation is theft.
It honestly looks fake its so cheap looking.
So you booted a binary firmware found "somewhere on the internet" on your router ... how sure are you exactly that this wasn't containing malware or rootkits that go behind your back ...
and just to concur - i also swapped out the crappy router from my isp provider for something that i have full control of. i just don't run random firmwares that i find on the internet.
Make it rack mounted
You did all that? Good, but why didnt you try to ask your isp to put your router into bridge mode and then you put another router behind it?
Never in my life have i heard Telephone be pronounced like that lol. 👉👉
if that router is a high end device than my Vauxhall Corsa cost more than Mclaren Senna
Delaware was not a good option for Elon. Nevada is better. Fyi
Hey that's not in English
2:38 - 38€*
This is destruction of property and/or unauthorized access of a computer device, both of which are misdemeanors. You don't own the device, the device is leased to you for the duration of the contract. You can request by law the PPPoE login details and use your own device, but you are breaking the law by tampering with your ISP's device.
Odd that your ISP would tell you you can't just set it to modem only mode. I called my ISP and asked them if I could just disable all router features of the device they provided to me. Not only did they tell me it was possible, but they also provided me with the steps and credentials necessary to do it myself.
This device is more than 99% of customers need. In addition to that it simply works. If you own a business, switch to a professional provider.
Wow, company lies!? Why not replace the router with your own? Not to mention the -ransom- management-ware
ugh you said it friend. Tomik and Bellgarde
